About the Role
As an Engineer within the R&D organization, you will join a highly skilled team working with the development of robust, reliable, and efficient turbomachinery components. Your work will contribute directly to products used by industries worldwide—ensuring structural integrity, aerodynamic performance, and long?term durability.
You will enter a technically advanced environment where learning, exploration, and collaboration are central. The team welcomes both experienced engineers and newly graduated talents. You will collaborate closely with specialists in aeromechanics, aerodynamics, mechanical integrity, structural dynamics, and testing—working together to drive innovation and engineering excellence.

You will:
Contribute to aeromechanical assessments throughout the development process—from concept studies and prototyping to final design.
Support investigations and perform aeroelastic calculations such as flutter and forced?response evaluations.
Conduct High?Cycle Fatigue (HCF) life assessments using modal analysis.
Evaluate measurement data such as strain?gauge results and tip?timing signals to support design improvements.
Explore optimization tools and assist in developing new methods within the R&D organization. Work across engineering disciplines to deliver innovative, cross?functional solutions. Stay updated on developments in turbomachinery and related engineering fields.


We are looking for someone who…
Holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, or another closely related field.
Is proficient in English, both spoken and written.
Is analytical, structured, and comfortable working with complex technical systems.
Is curious, open, and unafraid to ask questions—someone who enjoys learning, collaborating, and exploring new technical ideas together with others.



Meritorious
Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.
Knowledge or interest in turbomachinery, gas turbines, fluid mechanics, or structural dynamics.
Familiarity with CFD, FEM, or fluid–structure interaction.

A Snapshot of Your Day

As the world strives to decarbonize the electricity sector, there is a growing demand for large scale energy storage. Being able to store and transport large quantities of energy is critical both to energy security as well as to handle fluctuating renewable power sources. Weaning of dependence on fossil fuels also broadens the supply choices, as renewable energy can be generated at any location where either solar or wind power is suitable.

A promising transport and storage vector is ammonia, as it liquefies at a reasonably low temperature, -33°C, at atmospheric pressure. The challenge in using ammonia as an energy storage lies in the difficulty in burning it cleanly and safely in power plants. Burning ammonia in state-of-the-art combustion systems, typically result in large amounts of nitrogen oxides, NOx, nitrous oxides, N2O, and potentially ammonia itself. However, recent research on this topic shows that there are strategies that appears promising. In this master thesis, we would like to use high fidelity computational fluid dynamics calculations, large eddy simulations, combined with finite rate chemistry modelling of the combustion process. The purpose is to find concepts that would work in a practical setting, given the operating conditions of a gas turbine.

Within the R&D department we have specialists with a profound knowledge about combustion, both from a theoretical viewpoint, but also from practical design of industrial hardware. You will be part of this environment. We also work closely with world leading university partners on the topic of ammonia combustion.

In order to continue developing the combustor systems, we have to start to look at new challenges and new ways to get and use information.

We are now looking for a student to take on the assignment
* One field that we want to be investigated is the flame detection system, if there is a possibility to get further useful information from the flame that can be used to run and control our turbines. The burners and the flame are a central part of a gas turbine and they are utterly important to minimize the combustion dynamics and emission levels, as well as maximizing the fuel flexibility.
* In the development process we use artificial intelligence models, image processing, analyzing history data, atmospheric and high-pressure combustion tests, and gas turbine engine tests.

* The goal of this project is to study different concepts of flame detection incorporating flame establishment and shape. The work will consist of concept generation, evaluation, analyze historical data, concept model and testing.

The proposed work is to be performed within 20 weeks and includes layout concepts, models and testing. Previous experience with mathematic programs, programming skills, image processing, statistics and artificial intelligence are an advantage.
